Heizen mit Äpfeln: Unabhängig von Gas und Öl sein – das hat der Apfelhof Augustin südlich von Hamburg geschafft

In der Erntezeit zwischen August und Oktober erntet der Bio-Obsthof Augustin mit einer Größe von 29 Hektar jedes Jahr 600 Tonnen Bioäpfel. Diese und zusätzlich weitere 3.500 Tonnen Äpfel von Obstbetrieben aus der Umgebung werden in Kühlhäusern eingelagert.

Nach dem Pflücken werden die Äpfel  in den großen Lagern in kontrollierter Atmosphäre schnell von 15 Grad Celsius und mehr auf etwa 2 Grad Celsius gekühlt und in eine Art Kältestarre überführt. Beim Abkühlvorgang wird die Temperaturdifferenz in Form von Wärmenergie freigesetzt und über die Kühlaggregate an die Außenluft abgegeben. Die warme Abluft aus den Kühlhäusern verpuffte bis dato nutzlos.

Im Jahr 2008 entschied sich Dierk Augustin dazu eine Anlage zu installieren um die freiwerdende Energie in einem 8 m hohen Stahlzylinder zu speichern und in den Betriebskreislauf einzuspeisen. Als Speichermedium wählte man Wasser. Fortan wurde die in den Kühlzellen freigesetzte Energie gesammelt und per Wärmetauscher auf gewöhnliches Leitungswasser übertragen. Dieses Wasser wird dabei auf bis zu 60 Grad aufgeheizt und anschließend direkt in den Speicherzylinder geleitet.

EnercitEE meeting in Bologna / Italy

From 29 to 30 September 2011 the EnercitEE Working and Steering Group members met in Bologna, Italy.

The Working Group members discussed organisational issues for the upcoming Policy Advice Seminar in Wroclaw (scheduled for end of October 2011) and the Policy Maker Exchange in Växjö, Sweden (planned for June 2012). As a highlight of the meeting the prefinal printed version of the Good Practice Guide (GPG) in English which should be published soon was handed out to the group. Furthermore, the Regional Managers presented the progress and activities of the EnercitEE sub-projects.

In the afternoon of the first day of the meeting the Steering Group members discussed latest regional policies and future challenges in the different regions.

Good practice from Saxony – Excursion to the commune Zschadrass

The commune of Zschdrass is a small community nowadays belonging to the municipality of Colditz in Saxony. Zschadrass is one of the most active communes when it comes to renewable energies and energy saving in Saxony. They are also very innovative in developing new concepts for communal energy production.

According to the Mayor Matthias Schmiedel the commune started looking into their potential of saving energy in order to reduce their operation costs. The local council decided to start with the most visible and the easiest: in this case the street lightening. After 12 pm street lights have to be turned off.

After this they continued to observe the energy saving potential for communal building such as the gym and the school. Additionally, the commune was also looking for possibilities to keep the value added in the region which let also the vision of an energy self-sufficient commune in 2050.
