Dresden’s contributions to the European Mobility Week

From 16 to 22 September 2011 the European Mobility Week will take place and among many European cities the city of Dresden plans various activities to foster sustainable, energy-efficient and low-emission mobility.

As president of POLIS, a network of European cities and regions working together to deploy innovative technologies and policies for a more sustainable mobility the city of Dresden is pleased to support the European Mobility Week.

Highlights of the European Mobility Week in Dresden will be the campaign “Cycling City” and the Mobility Day taking place in Dresden’s World Trade Centre (WTC):

Cycling City
From 16 September to 6 October the city of Dresden, member of the Climate Alliance, participates in the Germany-wide competition “Cycling City “. The aim is to cover as many kilometres as possible on the bike. At the end of the three weeks, the routes of all participants in the city will be summed up. Of course the city of Dresden hopes to achieve one of the first positions.
Also the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology formed a team to take part in the competition.

Mobility Day at the WTC
On 20 September 2011 the Mobility Day will take place between 11am and 4pm. Among other things citizens will be given the chance to test segways and electric bikes, to inform themselves about alternative transport modes or to visit the exposition on “Mobility for elder people”.

Mobility week is a very exciting week in our region too! In France the european mobility week (and week end) took place in the same time as our national Heritage Days (when museums and cultural institutions are open to public for free).

Prioriterre organises a bike randonnee across Annecy, stoping by “historical” places. The starting point was Annecy city center and the arrival point was Maison pour la Planète in Meythet city. The randonne was also open to disabled people with special bikes.

Besides, a mobility stand was organised in Annecy city center all along the week and people could test e-bikes, take information on soft mobilities and speak with cycle expert and learn how to repair their bikes.
The public bus services were also free for one whole day during the mobility week!
